Andy Powell was given yet another chance to resurrect his faltering career when the Wales back-row was signed by English Premiership side Sale.

Powell left Premiership rivals Wasps earlier this month following his part in a bar-room brawl.

Last year Powell was axed from the Wales squad after being arrested for driving a golf buggy to a motorway service station while over the legal alcohol limit. He soon fell out of favour at Cardiff and joined Wasps.

But the 2009 British and Irish Lions tourist still proved an attractive acquisition for Sale, whose coach Steve Diamond said: "This is a huge signing for us.

"Andy has tremendous experience, is one of the best ball carrying forwards in world rugby and is one of the final pieces in the jigsaw as far as our recruitment goes for next term."

Powell, capped 17 times by Wales, was left out of coach Warren Gatland's squad to play the Barbarians in Cardiff on June 4.
